About the project

Real people. Real stories.

Welcome to the Engaging Families in Early Education (EFEE) research website.

This website shares digital stories, publications and professional learning modules from research with families, educators and service providers. These resources are relevant to all those who are interested in working with families experiencing poverty.

Governments and early learning services cannot always access family views on how poverty affects their everyday lives. In this project, we found out about early childhood education that meets the diverse needs of children and their families.

The research team spent time with families and early learning service staff to learn what systems, processes and practices best met the needs of families on low incomes. We visited five services in New South Wales and Queensland that are known for good practice in disadvantaged contexts to find out what works for families.

We have used what we learned to develop digital stories, publications and professional learning courses. You can find information about all these on this website.

We acknowledge the Bedegal, Gadigal, Darug, and Dharawal people as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work.
